These are also commonly known as urn compartments. In Malaysia, columbaria usually come in 8 or 9 columns.
Generally, eye level niches (typically Level 5 depending on height) are popular as they are literally located around the eye level of the average human being.
Hence this makes it more convenient for family members and friends to pay their respects when visiting the deceased. However, it is important to note that this is merely a matter of preference and each level has its own significance, thus catering to different groups of people.
